After School On-Site Supervisor/Counselor
Overview
The Mason City After School Counselor/On-Site Supervisor is responsible for leading and supervising a group of school aged youth with and without disabilities in youth recreation activities and encourage character development, skill advancement, and safety.
Mason City After School is open during the school year 3pm - 6pm Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday. 2pm-6pm on Wednesday. We offer child care on scheduled No School Days, Holiday Breaks, Spring Break and Snow Days.
$15/hr
WORKING HOURS:
- Working hours are Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday from 3 – 6pm. Wednesday 2 – 6 pm.
- Ability to work scheduled No School Days, Holiday Break, Spring Break is preferred.
Specific Skills
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Has obtained a high school diploma or passed a general education development test
- Has or will obtain current certification in infant, child, and adult cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), first aid, and Iowa’s mandatory reporting of child abuse.
- Ability to pass an Iowa/Federal Background Check
- Must posses or have the ability to obtain an Iowa Class D – Chauffeur License
- Pre employment Health Physical
- Must be able to meet Iowa HHS requirements obtained through a combination of education, experience, and child development-related training.
- Other HHS required trainings must be completed before official start date.
- Sound judgment, ability to prioritize and be self-directed, and work independently
- Ability to work flexibly with a collaborative team of staff members and volunteers
- Must be willing to work with all persons without regard to race, religion, ethnic origin, socioeconomic status or disability
Responsible For
- Supervise and lead children with and without disabilities in the After School program and maintain a fun, energetic, and positive environment.
- Ensure safe practices by participants at all times, including sign in and sign out procedures.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate with all levels including staff, parents and school staff.
- Strong organizational skills, detailed orientated and planning skills.
- Ability to problem solve and make decisions that adhere to the purpose, mission and goals of the YMCA.
- Maintain the cleanliness and safety of equipment and program area.
- Assist with After School program design and activity plan.
- Communicate with volunteers, staff, participants, and parents.
- Attend regular staff meetings and trainings as requested.
Additional Requirements
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- At least one year experience working with children with special needs.
- Must fulfill all State of Iowa trainings within the State’s required guidelines.
- Sufficient strength, agility and mobility to perform essential functions of position and to safely supervise children’s activities Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
