After School Program

The After School Program is for children ages 5-12. The After School Program at the YMCA is a place where children can remain active and engaged during their time out of school – a critical time for all school-age children.
LOCATIONS
We have two locations for our After School Program. Mason City Schools meet at the YMCA. Clear Creek students meet at Clear Creek Elementary.
Kids attending Jefferson Elementary & North Iowa Christian School will be transported to the YMCA in our vans. All other Mason City Public Schools will be bussed. You will need to fill out a bus application on the MCCSD website. Families will be updated with bus numbers when they are set by the school transportation department.
Clear Creek After School Program meets in the Little Lunchroom. Attendance is taken and kids will have the opportunity to play on the playground & use the gym when available.
Students at both locations will have daily opportunities for physical activity, to improve their study habits and reading skills and gain exposure to the arts. Kids in our after-school program at the YMCA demonstrate improvement in the values, skills, attitudes and behaviors needed for success in school and in life. Kids can achieve, feel a sense of belonging and explore new interests.
At the YMCA our number one priority is the safety of the children. When everybody is safe a lot of fun can be had. One of our favorite sayings for all our youth development programs is Be safe, be kind, have fun!
HOURS
Monday – Friday dismissal until 6:00 p.m.
No care is offered for any late starts.
If school is let out early due to bad weather parents/guardians have 2 hours from dismissal to pick up their child(ren)
COST
Pricing is determined by the number of school days in each month and will be billed monthly. A $50/child non-refundable registration fee is due at the time of registration.

If your child needs to attend for more days than the selected monthly plan, there is an option for drop-in care at a rate of $12/day. If the drop-in rate usage exceeds twice per month your selected monthly plan will be adjusted to the next highest pricing option.
Pre-K Wrap Around Program
Wrap-Around is a care program for 4-year-olds in Preschool. Drop off begins at 6:15 AM until school starts. Care is also provided from school end to 6 PM. On Wednesdays care is provided all day from 6:15 AM – 6 PM. Breakfast and snacks will be provided, with lunch also served on Wednesdays.
LOCATION
Wrap-Around is held at the Mason City YMCA. Buses will transport children to and from Preschool at Harding.
COST
Payment can be made automatically or at the YMCA front desk. State assistance is accepted. A $50 Registration Fee per child is due at time of registration.

No School Days
School’s Out Fun Day for scheduled no school days will be offered for the 2025/2026 school year. All School’s Out Fun Days are held at the YMCA and must have a minimum 10 children registered 1 weeks prior to the scheduled no school day.
Schools Out Fun Days are offered for the following districts: Clear Lake, Mason City, Central Springs and West Fork.
If your child(ren)s school has a no school day the same as one of these districts you are more than welcome to register and attend!

Sack lunch, swim suit and weather appropriate clothes to be outside.
HOLIDAY BREAKS
Care is scheduled for these upcoming holiday breaks:
• Thanksgiving November 26 & 28
– $35/day per child
• Winter Break December 22 – January 2
– (no camp Dec. 24 & 25)
– early pick-up (4:30 PM) on Dec. 31
– $35/day per child | $25 registration fee
• Spring Break March 9 – 13, 2026
– $35/day per child | $15 registration fee
Snow Days
Snow Day Camp may be held on snow days depending on staffing. Watch for an email and the YMCA Facebook page for information on snow days. Information will be sent out shortly after school is cancelled.
